O New Musical Express (NME) descreveu os WALT DISCO como um quinteto teatral, frenético, que transborda glamour e um certo queerismo. E de facto podemos confirmar tudo isso, por exemplo, nos vídeos que o grupo escocês gravou ao vivo na BBC. Na verdade, a banda oriunda de Glasgow afirma que as subculturas goth, punk, neo-romântica e queer são, efetivamente, as que mais os influenciam. A amálgama sonora contagiante dos WALT DISCO encontra na voz de James Potter aquilo a que vulgarmente chamamos “a cereja no topo do bolo”. Os trejeitos vocais extravagantes de Potter remete-nos umas vezes para um Jarvis “Pulp” Cocker, outras atira-nos para um Brett “Suede” Anderson, para logo depois nos empurrar para um Billy “The Associates” MacKenzie. E foi toda esta versatilidade (e dádiva) – onde emerge um revivalismo glam dos anos 80, feito de composições coesas, arranjos requintados, e letras inteligentes (e uma boa dose de humor à mistura) – que maravilhou os Duran Duran e os Primal Scream, que os convidaram para abrir os seus concertos. Mas não foram só as bandas de Simon Le Bon e de Bobby Gillespie que se renderam aos WALT DISCO. A própria FADE IN já se encantara por eles em 2020, mas depois veio a pandemia e o resto da história já todos a sabem. Felizmente, volvidos três anos, e dando cumprimento à nossa promessa, ei-los no cartaz do EXTRAMURALHAS 2023! Enquanto esperam pela desejada estreia desta banda no nosso país, podem ir devorando, com toda a atenção e minúcia, Unlearning, o álbum que em 2022 materializou tudo aquilo que esperávamos dos WALT DISCO! E ao vivo, como se adivinha, não esperamos menos deles do que a excelência que já evidenciaram até aqui. Imperdível a todos os níveis!

The New Musical Express (NME) described WALT DISCO as a theatrical, frenzied quintet that oozes glamour and a certain queerness. And indeed, we can confirm all of this, for example, in the videos that the Scottish band recorded live on the BBC. In fact, the band from Glasgow affirms that goth, punk, neo-romantic and queer subcultures are the ones that most influence them. The infectious sound amalgam of WALT DISCO finds its peak in the voice of James Potter, which is commonly referred to as “the cherry on top”. Potter’s extravagant vocal quirks sometimes remind us of Jarvis “Pulp” Cocker, other times of Brett “Suede” Anderson, and then push us towards Billy “The Associates” MacKenzie. And it was all this versatility (and gift) – where a 1980s glam revival emerges, made up of cohesive compositions, exquisite arrangements, and intelligent lyrics (and a good dose of humor mixed in) – that delighted Duran Duran and Primal Scream, who invited them to open their concerts. But it wasn’t just Simon Le Bon’s and Bobby Gillespie’s bands who surrendered to WALT DISCO. FADE IN had already fallen in love with them in 2020, but then the pandemic hit and the rest is history. Fortunately, three years later, and fulfilling our promise, here they are on the EXTRAMURALHAS 2023 lineup! While waiting for the much-awaited live debut of this band in our country, you can devour with all attention and detail, Unlearning, the album from 2022 that materialized everything we expected from WALT DISCO! And live, as one can imagine, we expect nothing less than the excellence they have already demonstrated. Unmissable on all levels.
